Family

During 4 weeks in July 2007, a group of 14 to 18 year- old French students from a high school located in France will come to your city with their English Teacher.

Allowing them to take part to everyday life in the USA staying with a local host family during their stay would help them improve their language abilities, meet a different culture and make new friends.

These students have been carefully chosen for their high success and motivation, have been specifically trained for this project and well prepared in order to avoid any disruption or inconvenience to their host family. They are also ready to adapt to the family routine, take part to eventual domestic chores and make sure they do not disturb the activities, work and everyday life of the American family.

The families willing to host a French student during his/her stay must show an interest in other cultures and languages, a high motivation and a willingness to make the student as comfortable as possible in their own environment in order to share the benefits of such an exchange. They must speak English at home and not be hosting another exchange student.
They will provide accommodation, food and transportation to allow the student to take part to the family life and will make sure their own child, preferably of the same age range (14 through 18), spends as much time as possible with him/her at home. The French chaperone will be at the disposal of the families to answer all questions during the stay but also quickly and firmly solve any eventual discipline problem.

Although there is absolutely no obligation for the families to plan activities with the student, take him/her sightseeing or share an after school sport session, it could, depending on the availability of each, be a pleasant surprise for the student and might make everyone’s time together more enjoyable.

It will be asked the families, once we have received all flight information, to meet and greet the French students at the airport. This is very important for the students to feel expected and it will be fun for everyone to begin this wonderful experience with a nice and warm welcome at the airport.

Although priority will always be given to the families willing to host for the entire duration of the stay, some families willing to participate but not available for the whole 4 weeks could be given the opportunity to host for 2 to 3 weeks only and share a student with another family.

All students and chaperones will have all their medical expenses covered during their stay. A policy has been contracted through AVI International: Worldwide Emergency Assistance.

Host families will be met individually at their home for a 20 minute interview to talk more about their interest and hobbies in order to proceed appropriately to the matching.

Soon after, families will receive a package including information and pictures of the student they’ll host, insurance and emergency contacts, a letter from the student and a participant’s agreement he/she signed and where he/she officially commits to follow the laws and rules, respect all customs and behave properly.

Also will be included the French student’s email address as well as his/her phone number allowing written or oral communication ahead of time.

American students will then be given the opportunity to go to France in the same conditions, based on a trip organized by the French Teacher,
FACES and Terre des Langues.

This cultural exchange will be a great and rewarding experience for all the parties involved and is a good opportunity to develop interesting contacts in a near future.
